Scottish Haggis The Woofer Loaf

Having a proper Scottish supper of haggis ‘n’ neeps ‘n’ tatties for Burns Night or just looking for an excuse to have haggis?!! Well, while you obviously want to keep your furry friend off the whisky, we’ve been trying out this lovely mouth-watering haggis recipe for dogs to ensure that your wee one can enjoy some hearty fare. Everything in moderation mind – this feast is classed as a high level reward so a little piece goes a long way!

Ingredientsbran-banana-muffins-2-400-1

  • 1 carrot (grated)
  • 2 tbsp oil (for greasing)
  • 1 cup roasted sweet potato (chunks)
  • half a cup organic liver (chopped)
  • 3/4 cup red lentils
  • 2 cups chicken stock (low salt)
  • 1 cup kidney beans
  • 1 tsp fresh rosemary (chopped)
  • pinch of pepper
  • 3 cups porridge oats

The sweet potato, lentils and beans are optional you can up the oats and an egg. We’ve used the above and and made without the potato and lentils and the woofer woofed 10 out of 10!

Method

In a large saucepan, sauté the grated carrot until softened. Add in the roasted sweet potato, lentils, liver, oats and stock and bring to a boil on the stove. Simmer for 10 minutes and then add the kidney beans and rosemary (add more water if needed). Oil 8 muffin or fairy cake tins or 1 loaf tin and fill with the mixture and then cook at 375F for around 30 minutes. Place foil over the bake for the first 15 minutes then uncover. Do stick a skewer in and ensure it comes out clean ie the loaf or muffins are cooked properly. Ensure your beany-meat roast with a Scottish Burns night theme is woofsome before your furry friend gets stuck in!

Crufts 2015 Judge Mr S WatsonP1030722-400-1

Shaun Watson writes “First I want to thank Crufts and its committee for inviting me to judge Kerry Blue Terriers at this famous and prestigious show and thank you to ALL the exhibitors who entered for the show; it was a privilege and honour. Over the last few years I have judged Kerrie Blue on four continents and many different countries, which mean I feel I can comment on the breed as a whole for which I have shown for over 25 years with many Champions, group and BIS and top in breed dogs. Certainly the breed is not as strong as my hey days when we would have 2 or 3 dogs and 2 or 3 bitches being shown at the same time all current Ch. show BIS and group winners, but I had a very good cross section of kerries with an excellent etry of 64 dogs entered. I think movement is generally a problem but that said I think that is true of all breeds, and as a FCI all breeds judge I see lots of different breeds, the other problems I felt there was to many tall females, some bigger than males and there are defiantly more coat problems, I don’t think all was genetics most I believe was from being blown dry with warm or hot air, this over time gives a harsher coat not soft as required and takes away from the shine and gloss needed, and the current trend around the world and seems also in the UK, a few are taking too much coat off the body, and the breed standard require plentiful coat, and where is the trimming and presentation skill in a short close coat. That said many was correct, I didn’t see any problem with mouths or coat colour, the dogs was presented in a professional and terrier way, they was clean and happy, temperaments of dogs and owners was correct and pleasing to see, there was very little of this running and speeding around the ring, again another of my pet hates, so I assume people was told about me and almost all walked. Judging started on time with no dramas and all made the ring, which was big well lit and enough space to stand and move. I was pleased to see after wards both CC winners had the same sire, and both RCC had the same sire, but different to CC winners, of the major awards three owners had never shown under ever and one had shown under me once, none had ever judged any of my dogs. For the people who don’t know me, I don’t really care for people friends or enemies when I judge I just look at the dogs, yes I have given CCs to friends and also to people who dislike me, I have given to famous dogs and dogs with their first big win, I like to sleep well and to be honest I do and one reason I just do my own thing and that’s that. There are a few other moans and good things to be said BUT I know this report will be considered too long and would not get posted so let’s go on to the dogs reports. Can I remind all that judging only matters at that time, at that show and what that judge thinks at that time, we ALL always take the best dog home?

Class 1728 VETERAN D Entries: 2 Absentees 1

1st 11194 MR S COOPER – CH/SWE CH ROLLICK’S FOOL FOR FAME (IMP SWE) SHCM LVCH BVCH. 10 years old very happy and correct temperament and seemed to enjoy his day, correct and ok for size, ears could be set and or used better, moved well for age, coat correct and as expected for age, shown in good body, weight and bone, there is no best veteran overall which for Crufts would have been nice to delare one,

Class 1729 PUPPY D Entries: 3 Absentees 0

1st 11230 MR R RAMSAY – TORUM’S CAIRO FRED. Very interesting male of 11 months, correct in height, excellent in substance and bone, well presented and handled, coat in excellent condition and trimmed with good length and correct type, and top shine and gloss, short level correct back, good top line, moved well for age, head developing well and of good length, well set and used ears, should become a CH.

2nd 11203 MR R M & S P EASTON & MACKAY – KEBULAK HEART OF STONE WITH WIDDRSHINS. 10 months male all in proportion, but could be more of him all over, should come with time and exercise, tail set and or carriage could be a little better, moved a little close behind, well-handled and present in clean and good condition, correct coat going the right way, nice top line.

3rd 11236 MS E & MR S SOMERS & COOPER – DOGAZZA’S SMOKING GUN. 10 months male top size for me. Could have more showmanship and terrier sprit, strong head for age, needs more drive behind but should come with age, exercise and time, good ears, strong neck.

Class 1730 JUNIOR D Entries: 6 Absentees 1

1st 11184 MESSRS D & I ANDERSON & WATT – EDBRIOS EXPLORER. Very impressed with this young male of 14 months, really my type and if continues to develop will be a top winner, excellent in height and bone, substance correct for age at present, trimmed well but as I told the owner one of a few with to little amount of coat, the reason was explained to me and I expect this to be more correct at the next shows, colour is correct for this age, texture and high quality of coat, stood like a CH and looked like not only he owned the ring but was looking around to see who would be second place, long lean head with enough muzzle, dark eye, wicked expression, well set and correct used and placed ears, strong neck, firm hard level top line, excellent length, strength and carriage of the tail which was well set and used to advantage, good angulation, moved and shown well with super character won the RCC today.

2nd 11198 MS C L DAVANI – KEBULAK LOVE GUN. 15 months excellent colour and changing well, correct type, texture and quality of coat, good shine, moved close behind, head of good length and depth, correct set and used ears, strong bone correct feet, enough depth and width of chest for age and developing along the correct way for the future.

3rd 11191 MRS E CARTER – KEBULAK FRENCH CONNECTION. 13 months correct for height and substance good bone, short level back, head of good length, dark eye, excellent well set and well used ears, must admit I really feel, if the ears are not set right it spoils the overall balance and impression of the head, coat type could be better.

Res 11234 MR R & MISS C ROSE & TRACEY – ARKAMA HIGHLANDER

Class 1731 POST GRAD D Entries: 5 Absentees 0 1st 11195 MR G & MRS A DALY – COMMANCHE CREEK. 18 months excellent for height which is something I always look for, yes I do have a thing about height but I have also had a taller CH myself, I would never put an inferior correct size over a superior tall male but if I can I will look more for the correct size for me, could be a little more mature in body , but this will come with time and is of the right type, long lean head, with strong muzzle, dark eye and well set, position and used ears excellent in temperament and shown well, happy dog.

2nd 11192 MISS C CLARKE-O’NEILL – LEMRACDREAM FIELD OF DREAMS IR 22 months top size for me, Maybe little heavy in skull, strong and deep mussel, super strong bone, correct frim level top line standing and on the move, movement could be little more positive,

3rd 11240 T SONNENSCHEIN – LOUGHBOROUGH SUITE LEROY [ATCAR01470DEU]. 22 months correct for height and size, nice head, ears could be set and used more to advantage, coat texture could be better, and could be a little more happier and terrier sprit, moved ok and well handled and presented.

Res 11232 MR A M RATHBONE – KEBULAK BLUE DEMON IN QARAQUL

Class 1732 LIMIT D Entries: 3 Absentees 1

1st 11202 MR S & MISS E T EARLE & KELLY – MICULADH EDGE OF GLORY AT DOLLAGH. 2 years correct height and size, a little heavy on the skull, dark eyes, not fully happy today and needs more go and terrier attitude and sprit, did not always use tail to advantage, which spoils the general overall balance, handled to advantage and made the handler work, good tail set and use but when used, correct coat and moved ok

2nd 11185 MR A BAINE – CEDAR THE SPANIARD AT STORMBLU. 3 years but a bit to heavy and masculine for me lacked enough elegance and refinement I would have liked, built very strong, showed and handled very well and presented to advantage which you would expect from the breeder/handler. Excellent coat colour but needs a a bit more coat, moved ok.

Class 1733 OPEN D Entries: 8 Absentees 2

1st 11244 MR J WEATHERHEAD – CH HALLSBLU FIBBER MAGEE. My type of Kerry, I like it when they walk in the ring like they own it and think they have already won, correct terrier attitude I want, and no aggression as he knew he was the best and had no need to prove it. Looked like a stallion you want from males and looked down his nose at all, long lean head and correct in skull proportions would like a little more mussel for overall balance but strong enough, dark eyes head trimmed to advantage and ears well set and used and correct, had the required for me wicked expression, strong well used neck, short level firm top line held on the move and standing, tail set to advantage and used to balance him overall and to make him look even shorter in back, excellent rear angulation, real light blue coat, which too many think is the only colour remember there are I think 52 shades of blue and all acceptable colour for a Kerry blue terrier, the coat was the right amount of length to be considered plentiful and allow trimming expertise to be shown, the texture was correct and the gloss and shine expected was there in abundance, I could see he could be a handful, but the experience and full control of his owner breeder controls this and used it to show of his evident terrier sprit and dominance. Not surprised after how much I like what I saw and found under the coat he won the CC and BOB. I stayed to watch him and the ever youthful looking Crufts Terrier group judge and was pleased to see him shortlisted in a very strong terrier group, which was won by an stunning built and handled Scottish Terrier who deservedly went on to BIS

2nd 11196 MS C L DAVANI – KEBULAK LADY KILLER. 2 years old top quality male trimmed and presented to advantage, handled expertly with the required terrier character and spirit, coat of right type and amount, trimmed to enhance and show of the dog, excellent texture and shine to the coat, strong top line correct and well used tail set, moved well

3rd 11215 MR H KVIVESEN – NORD CH SHYLOCH QOSMOS (ATC). Another top quality male 2.5 years old, presented perfectly and in super hard condition, good length of head, skull could be a little more refinded, dark eye, excellent set and used ears, used to advantage, correct type and presentation of coat and texture, moved well, I see I have given this dogs sire a group a few years ago and wish you the best with this one.

FR/BE/LUX/SWISS/MON/INT CH BALBOA EXTRAVAGANZA (ATC) 8 years old elegent female , nice head with good length, dark enough eye, ears could be set better and used more to advantage, coat and movement ok for age , happy dog and well handled, correct for height and substance good top line tail set ok

2nd 11239 MS E J SOMERS – DOGAZZAS MODUS OPERANDI 8 years old, correct size, good bone, coat as expected at this age, but correct clolour, nice type of head, ears could have been used better for overall balance, correct temperament and character, nice top line and tail set

Class 1736 PUPPY B Entries: 3 Absentees 0

1st – clarifying – Very much my type size and shape, a real terrier who knew it, excellent coat for age with correct type and texture, too early for colour which is expected enough depth of chest, level top line , strong bone but still ultra-feminine good length of head with the required strength needed for a Kerry, dark eye, ears correct size, well set and used to give balance and correct look for the head, super long neck of correct length, excellent body type super top line and tail set which was carried correctly on the move, moved well for age should be one to watch for the future, should become a CH

2nd 11237 MS E J SOMERS – DOGAZZA’S SILVER BULLET 11 months needs a little more confidence but should come in time, a little top size for me, long lean head, ears set ok, nice coat for age, needs more go on the move and a bit more attitude but again is still young.

3rd 11220 MR J & MRS P MCCANN – BALLYBALOE MARY POPPINS 9 months nice for size, needs more confidence and terrier spirit, nice shape type and size, good bone,

Class 1737 JUNIOR B Entries: 4 Absentees 0

1st 11182 MESSRS D & I ANDERSON & WATT – KEBULAK PLAYING WITH FIRE. 14 months old super for size shape and height, almost no coat on the body which is something I have mentioned above, yes it makes the dog easier to shape, but for me it is not correct and takes away from one of the main features of the breed. I have just checked the catalogue and seen same owner as RCC dog, who I also mentioned about the coat, I hope they change their trimming style at least for me if and when I judge again, coat type could also be better, but cannot no remember if from genetics or coat preparation, but you have a few nice dogs so hope you can just continue to gain experience in our lovely breed.

2nd 11211 L HETHERINGTON – IRISBLU AIVEEN FOR NEWENT 12 months just out of puppy where I think she would have fared better, super shape and body type, nice long and lean head of good depth, ears could be set or used better for overall balance and look, nice coat type and texture needs also more body coat, well-handled and presented just needs more time to finish.

3rd 11214 MISS J E JONES – ARKAMA HARMONY MISS D’ARCY Left before the report but from what I remember nice size type and shape, good head but needs more time to develop, good neck and top line moved ok and well handled.

1st 11204 MR P & MRS R ENSELL – ARKAMA SPUN GOLD BY NEMIAH 2 years old, correct height, substance and bone, femine head of enough length, dark eyes, ears could be used to more advantage, excellent coat colour but texture could be better, good neck, short level firm top line good tail set, handled and presented well, should become a CH

2nd 11186 MR NEEDHAM – KEBULAK MADAME SCANDAL AT ANFANG 2.5 years old, ok for height, good bone and feet, excellent coat colour, texture should be better, nice feminine head well set and used ears, presented well and handled well,

3rd 11190 MRS E CARTER – KEBULAK BELLY DANCER 23 months old too big for my tastes, excellent and in proportion head, super set and used ears, when used, coat type could be better, in this class I had a few bitches much to tall, bigger than the males, yes they might have looked feminine but for me to big, also some coats was to tight, woolly, and did not have the shine needed

Class 1739 LIMIT B Entries: 11 Absentees 2

1st 11218 MR P & MRS E MARTIN – CLANCIARRAI BLUE VELVET Before the report I have known this owner for over 25 years and not a better person you will find, he is not only polite and graceful in defeat, but he is honest and helpful to all and a real Kerry and terrier man, and is always pleasing to see him at a show, this is only the second time I judged his dogs and if I am right i gave him the limit bitch class then and maybe RCC, this female was 2 years old and of high quality which you would expect if your still showing these number of years ( but not always true) correct size for me, excellent bone, correct coat colour and acceptable texture but could be a little better and good shine to coat, super lean and long head, with the ears set that says don’t mess with me, dark eye and excellent and correct expression, strong neck, super firm level top line, well set and used tail set and carriage, presented well and handled to advantage won the RCC today, should become a CH

2nd 11221 MR A MUAT – MONTEALTOS WELL YA DON’T SAY 3 years excellent coat colour and type, also needs more coat for overall balance, nice head of correct type with good length and depth, well used ears, long neck, well handled.

3rd 11183 MESSRS D & I ANDERSON & WATT – KEBULAK NAKED AND FAMOUS 3 years old, well handled, excellent coat colour, texture could be better, , head of right type and shape, good neck and top line moved ok again this class had too many tall females with the incorrect coat, both are very important in our breed and needs to be watched and continues to improve on.

1st 11200 MR P DAVIES – CH MILLSBLU LIVING THE DREAM AT PERRISBLU 2 years old but very high quality female, yes I agree a little on the top size for me but she is ultra feminine and in proportion, another who walked and demanded to be first and looked at, a real Kerry and Terrier and a credit to her owner and breeder, correct in coat type and texture and real shine and gloss to the coat and excellent colour, long lean head, strong mussel with good depth, dark eye, head trimmed to enhance her features, well set and used ears ad required wicked expression, long strong well used neck running into a firm level top line and well set used and carried tail set, correct spring of rib and good depth of chest and nice fore chest, strong bone, moved well and presented to advantage and to make her look as she was in top form, she wanted the CC, pushed for the CC ad got the CC. in the challenge before they came in I had thought it was easily the male, but she fought him all the way and I changed my mind a few times while watching but went for the male in the end dues to that masculine presence and dominance but super female

2nd 11229 MR R RAMSAY – CH IRISBLU BOSTON ROSE AT TORUM Another high quality female 3 years old, presentation and handling of the highest quality, excellent for height, bone and substance, very feminine and elegant, long lean head with strength and femininity, strong mussel, well set used and carried ears excellent expression and balance of head and Kerry look, strong neck, firm level top line correct standing and on the move correct and well used and set tail, very correct in coat type colour and texture and really good shine and gloss to the coat, would like a strong rear, handled as you would expect from this well-known breeder, correct temperament and character.
